On March 4th, we honored the hard work and dedication of the 2009 Queen of Hearts participants at their gala in Raleigh. Ninety-two guests attended the gala to watch three new queens receive their crowns– Autumn Overby (Chatham), Lindsey Stever (Wake), and Casey Brantley (Johnston).
Participants, with the help of their parents, campaign managers and community, raised nearly $28,000 for the Triangle Area Chapter of the American Red Cross!
Throughout the night, guests enjoyed dinner provided by Golden Corral and cake for dessert. Once dinner was served, guests enjoyed comments from Natalie Davis, 2008 Queen of Hearts: Johnston County who exclaimed “You’re not getting rid of me!” as she expressed her great enthusiasm for the program and for the American Red Cross. After Natalie’s speech and the crowning ceremony, guests were invited to dance and mingle while DJ Brian O’Toole played today’s top hits. Guests were also unexpectedly serenaded by one brave participant who took Barry Porter, Regional Executive Director, up on his offer of ending the evening with karaoke!
This year was a great growing year for the program. We had the most participants to date who actively hosted events in the community, not only to raise funds but also to raise awareness of the American Red Cross’s mission. We are looking forward to gearing up for next year and making the program even better in 2010!
